Andrew’s Mechanical is an independent European mechanic for Blacktown and the surrounding suburbs, and a diesel mechanic in Kings Park for utes, 4WDs and passenger cars. What’s different about these vehicles
European cars
Many European engines need oil that carries a specific manufacturer approval, such as VW 504 00/507 00 or MB 229.5, not just the right viscosity. The approval is listed in the owner’s manual. Many also have service reminders that need to be reset after a service, and some need a new battery registered to the car.
4WDs
Off-road driving, beach runs, towing and heavy loads are hard on suspension, CV joints, brakes and driveline parts. Many 4WD logbooks also call for differential and transfer case oil changes, and a shorter schedule for severe use.
Diesels
Clean fuel matters to a modern diesel. Fuel filters need changing on schedule, and a water-in-fuel warning shouldn’t be ignored. Many newer diesels also have a diesel particulate filter (DPF) that relies on regular longer drives to clean itself, so short-trip driving can bring on a warning light.

Frequently asked questions
Can an independent mechanic service my European car while it’s under new car warranty?
Yes. The ACCC’s position is that servicing by an independent mechanic doesn’t void the new car warranty if it follows the manufacturer’s specifications and suitable parts are used.

Why is my diesel showing a DPF warning?
The diesel particulate filter usually needs a longer run at steady speed to clean itself. Lots of short trips can stop that happening. If the light stays on, book in for a diagnosis.
