Modern cars rely on electrics for almost everything, from starting the engine to running the safety systems. If you need auto electrical repairs in Kings Park, Andrew’s Mechanical handles starter motors, alternators, batteries, charging systems and warning light diagnostics at our workshop at 3 Goulburn St, a short walk from Marayong station.

What’s included

  • Starter motor replacement – when the engine won’t crank or cranks slowly despite a good battery.
  • Alternator replacement – when the charging system isn’t keeping the battery topped up.
  • Warning light and fault code diagnostics – reading the codes, then testing the circuits and parts behind them.
  • Battery testing and replacement – including batteries for cars with stop-start systems.
  • Battery and charging system checks – testing the battery, alternator output and the wiring between them.

Signs of an electrical problem

  • A single click or rapid clicking when you turn the key or press the start button, but the engine doesn’t turn over.
  • The engine cranks slowly, especially on cold mornings.
  • The battery warning light comes on while driving – usually a charging fault, not the battery itself.
  • Headlights dim at idle and brighten when you rev the engine.
  • The battery keeps going flat, even after it has been charged or replaced.
  • A whining noise from the front of the engine that rises with revs, which can come from a failing alternator.
  • Several warning lights come on at once, or the dash flickers.

Battery, alternator or starter?

These three parts work together, so one can easily be blamed for another. A weak battery can make a starter sound like it’s failing. A faulty alternator will flatten a brand-new battery. A small electrical drain when the car is parked can flatten a good battery overnight. Testing each part before replacing anything saves you buying parts you didn’t need.

Batteries also wear out with age and heat, and western Sydney summers are tough on them. Many newer cars with stop-start systems need a specific battery type, such as AGM or EFB, and some need the new battery registered to the car’s computer. Tell us the make and model when you call.

Why book with us

  • We are a licensed NSW motor vehicle repairer, licence MVRL47744.
  • We handle both the electrical and mechanical side, so if a warning light points to an engine fault, it can be fixed here too.
  • We work on all makes, including European, 4WD and diesel vehicles.
  • We’re also an Authorised Inspection Station and carry out AUVIS (blue slip) inspections.
  • We’re a local Kings Park workshop near Marayong station, close to Seven Hills, Kings Langley and Blacktown.

A battery test is a quick add-on at your next car service.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my battery keep going flat?

Common causes are a worn-out battery, an alternator that isn’t charging properly, or something drawing power while the car is parked. Testing the battery and charging system shows which one it is.

Is the battery light a battery problem?

Usually not. The battery light normally means the charging system isn’t working properly, often the alternator or its drive belt. Get it checked soon, because the car can stop once the battery runs down.

Can you diagnose warning lights on any make?

We carry out warning light and fault code diagnostics on all makes. Tell us which light is on and the make and model when you call.

Does my stop-start car need a special battery?

Many do. Stop-start systems often need an AGM or EFB battery, and some cars need the new battery registered to the car’s computer. We’ll check what your car needs.
