SYS-05Our Kings Park workshop

Your brakes, suspension and steering decide how well the car stops, corners and holds the road. Andrew’s Mechanical handles brake repairs for Blacktown, Kings Park and nearby suburbs, along with shock absorbers and steering work, from our workshop at 3 Goulburn St, Kings Park, a short walk from Marayong station.

What’s included

  • Brake pads – inspection and replacement.
  • Rotors – checked for thickness and run-out, and replaced when worn or warped.
  • Calipers – repair or replacement of sticking or leaking calipers.
  • Brake fluid flushes – replacing old fluid at the interval your logbook sets.
  • Suspension and shock absorbers – shocks, struts, springs, bushes and ball joints.
  • Steering repairs – tie rod ends, steering racks and power steering faults.
  • Tyre rotation and balancing – to even out wear and stop vibrations.

Signs your brakes or suspension need attention

Brakes

  • A high-pitched squeal when braking – many pads have a wear indicator that does this when they’re getting thin.
  • A grinding or scraping noise, which can mean the pad material is gone and metal is touching the rotor.
  • A pulsing pedal or a shaking steering wheel under braking, often from uneven rotors.
  • A soft or spongy pedal, or one that sinks closer to the floor than it used to.
  • The car pulls to one side when you brake, or one wheel is much hotter or dustier than the others.
  • The brake or ABS warning light is on.

Suspension and steering

  • The car keeps bouncing after a bump, or the nose dives hard when braking.
  • Knocks or clunks over speed humps and potholes.
  • Oil on the outside of a shock absorber.
  • Steering that wanders, feels loose, is heavy or groans when turning.
  • Tyres wearing on the inner or outer edges, or in patches.

Why brake fluid needs changing

Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air over time. Water in the fluid lowers its boiling point, which can lead to a soft pedal under heavy braking, such as coming down a long hill or towing, and it can corrode parts inside the system. Most manufacturers set a replacement interval by time, often every 24 months, regardless of kilometres. Check your logbook or ask us when you book your next service.

Why book with us

  • We are a licensed NSW motor vehicle repairer, licence MVRL47744.
  • We’re an Authorised Inspection Station, so we know what brakes, steering and suspension need to meet for a pink slip, and we carry out AUVIS (blue slip) inspections.
  • We work on all makes, including European cars, 4WDs and diesels.
  • We’re a local Kings Park workshop near Marayong station, close to Blacktown, Lalor Park and Kings Langley.
  • Call the workshop during opening hours to book.

If you’re hearing clicking on full lock rather than a brake noise, it may be a CV joint – see drivetrain repairs.

Frequently asked questions

How often should brake pads be replaced?

There’s no fixed distance. It depends on the car, the pads and how you drive. City driving and towing wear pads faster than highway driving. Pad thickness can be checked when the car is in for a service, so you can plan ahead.

Do I need new rotors every time I replace pads?

Not always. Rotors are replaced if they are below the minimum thickness, warped or badly scored. They are measured when the pads are replaced.

Is it safe to drive with a grinding noise from the brakes?

Grinding often means the pads are worn through and metal is hitting the rotor, which reduces braking and damages the rotor quickly. Get it checked as soon as possible.

Can worn suspension fail a pink slip?

Yes. Worn or leaking shock absorbers, loose ball joints and worn steering parts can all be failure items on a NSW safety check.
